Suave Pave:
Pave Engagement Rings

Imagine a cobblestone road made entirely of diamonds...that's what a pave engagement ring is all about.

But on a much smaller scale, of course, and in ring form...but you get the idea.

Pave (pronounced pah-vay) is a wonderful, intricate design of many small stones clustered together. Rather than using a prong setting, pave styles are set with tiny beads of gold or platinum, to add to the glitz factor.

The result is lots 'o glitter, and the good news is that you can get the bling for less buck, because smaller stones cost less than larger ones. A nice variation on the pave style is the row of diamonds around a wedding or engagement band, which is very stylish to say the least.

To Pave or Not to Pave

The pave decision depends first on whether or not you like the style, of course. The minimalists may find pave engagement rings way to busy, but for those who like the intricacy and lots of shine, it's a fab choice. And the thread of rocks around the band is a beautiful compromise. So if you like the extras, pave away!

Rock Around the Rock

How you pave depends in large part on the main attraction, unless you opt for the band and pave style without a larger diamond setting (and there's nothing wrong with that!) Pave settings are very adaptable: for instance, you can pave around the big rock itself in the raised setting, or pave on the band, or both.

One great thing about pave-ing around the big rock is that you can give the illusion of a larger stone by surrounding it with beads of smaller diamonds.

Color Me Pave

Mixing color into your pave engagement ring is also fun, and for those who like a little adventure in their jewelry, throwing in some color adds intricacy and interest. Of course, not using diamonds throughout the pave work reduces the overall shine factor, so if you're looking for that constant refection, you may want to avoid the color. But if you really want to incorporate specialty stones, pave is a great option.

Or think of this - for those of you who really want to highlight color but also want diamonds, and can't think of a solution, try this: set your colored stone as the primary gem then use pave to add the diamonds. A win-win situation!

You get your color and the diamonds won't feel left out. And if price is an issue, this can be an affordable alternative to work with a variety of gems and still create a real 'gem.'

Let's face it, whatever you choose to do with your pave, a pave engagement ring gives you a look that's distinctive and stylish - just like you, yes?
